District Announcements
Proposed state budget impact
This is a challenging time for public education. The proposed state budget would change the educational landscape for years to come. We've sent a letter to our legislators outlining our concerns. See it here. If you'd like to contact legislators, we have a sample letter and contact information. Contact the superintendent's office at 262-255-8440.
Congrats, Class of 2013!
Menomonee Falls High School sent off nearly 400 graduates into the world on Saturday. Student speakers included Justin Johnson, Jamie, Ertl, Megan Perinovic, Owen Thompson, Emma Brose and Meredith Frey. Athletic and Activities Director Ryan Anderson was selected as student speaker, and Mitchell Policht was remembered. Rain stayed away so the traditional ceremony could be held outside. See a photo collage here.
Eighth-graders move on
North Middle School held its Completion Ceremony Thursday night. Nicholas Fritsch served as student speaker and Katlyn Macholl led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Joe Weitzer of Waukesha Technical College was the guest speaker. Student Dylan Smith, who passed away from muscular dystrophy last year, was honored with a moving remembrance.
2013-14 Budget update
An udpate on the 2013-14 budget will be provided at the School Board meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the Village Hall. Here's a link to the community budget document.
4 alumni immortalized
One helped an expedition find $500 million in jewels; another is an accomplished author. One continues a successful music career in performance and business; another has performed with top musicians across the country. Menomonee Falls High School recently inducted four more alumni into its Fine Arts Wall of Fame. Check out the plaques on the wall near the Auditorium entrance.
Read about the inductees here.
Relay raises nearly $20,000 again
Menomonee Falls High School's Relay for Life raised $19,500 and counting for the American Cancer Society Friday night. Donations are still being accepted. 2012 honorary speaker and cancer survivor Bill Jackson served as host for the evening, and Superintendent Dr. Patricia Greco served as this year's speaker, providing her moving story of beating breast cancer. The high school Key Club, advised by Dave Gruber, led organization of the event. Students Allison Wang and Alex Hackbarth co-chaired the event. Hundreds of students, staff and community members had a blast playing Save Princess Peach, large-scale Angry Birds and Jenga, and a humongous game of Twister.
See photos here.
